I use the term witch more as a descriptor than an identity tbh

See, that’s what the app is perfect for.

Sounds perfect Wahhhh, I don’t wanna

Uhhh hi

A little introductory post, since I don’t think I’ve created one before. I’m Petra, my pronouns are they/them and I’m aiming to be a paleontologist one day. I agree with a lot of Christ’s teachings, but I don’t identify as a Christian, nor any of its denominations. I’m more of a Christo-agnostic, really. I look at the Bible from an academic and/or philosophical perspective and I don’t take it literally. I’m witchy, but I don’t identify as a witch, since I don’t do most of the things other witches do. I just talk to my spirit guides and G-d (whom I call Unity) and sometimes they talk back.

I do a lot of shadow work and I believe everyone has a responsibility to do some sort of that work when and however they can. I work with Yeshua, my guides, and the Holy Spirit (Sophia) from time to time. They’ve been helping me heal a lot of inner trauma that came up for me earlier this year. Do I know for sure that I’m “truly” talking to these entities? No. Do they help me and encourage me to be my best self? Yes. So does it really matter? I don’t think so lmao. No one knows for certain about anything metaphysical, so why not just be honest about it?

Anywho, there it is. Just so you know, I’m not going to blindly believe some rando who tells me I’m going to “Hell” because xyz, so please save your breath. That fearmongering is not welcome on my blog.

Folks, it's not hard to respect other people's paths. Not every witch is a pagan, not every pagan is a witch, some people mix paganism with local variations of Christianity, some people mix "anti-magic" religions with witchcraft. It might seem nonsensical to you, but as long as they're not being appropriative or harming anybody, please keep your negative comments to yourself.

For example, I'm a christian witch, and a surprising number of witches think that's an oxymoron. I've had complete beginners tell me I can't be both. I've also had more experienced people try to tell me so. But there's actually quite a precedence of christian magical practice, and honestly, it's not really anybody else's business anyway.

Just, even if you're trying to be helpful, please step back for a moment and consider how you would feel if someone told you that your (non-appropriative) practice was wrong. Consider asking about their practice and maybe learning something neat instead of casting immediate judgement. Let's try to be the welcoming and open-minded community some of us like to say we are.

Lmao if you're not a witch or magical practitioner and you're reblogging or commenting on this- it's not about you. Sorry it shows up in the christian tag, Tumblr needs to fix that shit. But I already know y'all think I'm a heretic or whatever, so save your time and energy, just block me. I talk to God regularly and They have never indicated that They are displeased with me.

Actual interaction I had with my main guide today, in case anyone needs a dose of inspiration

Me: I actually feel at home here. Why do I actually feel at home here?

Pterano: It’s a beautiful thing, isn’t it?

Me: Well, yeah sure, but… how? I’m struggling, but I don’t feel like I shouldn’t exist anymore.

Pterano: That is because you are healing.

Me: I never want to feel that way again.

Pterano: No one ever does, but we’re all prone to relapse at some point or another. What matters is that you don’t let that stop you. You keep on going.

Keep on sailing.

Keep on flying.

Keep moving forward.

rodgirling asked:

I think as Jews we have every right to engage with discussions of Christianity, and it sucks that you’re getting so much hate about it. I hope you’re having a good day despite internet weirdos!

givemearmstopraywith-archive answered:

thank you!! tbh i think we have more right than most people- jesus was a jew, first and foremost, and christianity was at its simplest and most formative a jewish cult. if we had more of a jewish perspective in the church and in modern theology so many things could have been avoided, but we don’t and for jews to engage with christianity- and in its theology, like i am through my degree- is so deeply necessary. l'chaim bitch

Christians have been shoving their own hands into Judaism for ages now, particularly to either shit on, grossly misinterpret, or appropriate Judaism. Coming from a culturally Christian individual, I think you, as a Jew, have every right to engage with Christian theology the way you see fit. Screw what others say! Interact with the Divine how you see fit!

One of the problems with Christian deconstruction is how a lot of even the Christian deconstructionists and progressive Christians get surprisingly unwelcoming when it comes to the main doctrine of Christianity. They’re fine with me questioning anything in the Bible, but they’re not fine when I question why Yeshua has to be a literal figure in history.

Why does the idea of Yeshua being a myth automatically invalidate everything he had to teach? We learn from myths all the time, why does Yeshua have to be any different? Myths have always been sacred throughout countless cultures in human history, not because of how literally true they are, but because of the lessons they teach. Why does ours have to be different?

I know they love the idea of Unity (aka G-d) coming down as a literal human being and sharing our suffering with us. I love that idea, too. But why does that have to be a literal, historical event? Isn’t the story cool in of itself? Why can’t we just enjoy and learn from the stories instead of twisting human history to fit the Christian narrative? When I bring up those kinds of questions, I’m met with invalidation of those questions and/or defensiveness of the doctrine.

Quite frankly, I don’t feel welcome among ya’ll. This is why this blog hasn’t been all that active, or why I haven’t posted anything on Tik Tok about my deconstruction as of late. I feel like I’m too atheistic to have a place in your community, and I’m not even an atheist. I’m an omnist, I believe all religions have some sort of truth to them, whatever that truth is to the individual. Other than that, I don’t know what I believe anymore. I don’t even know who I am anymore and that’s frustrating enough without the invalidation.

Progressive Christians and Christian deconstructionists, I love ya’ll but please do better.

You cannot be a Christian in good standing while practicing witchcraft. Sorcery/divination/pagan practices of all kinds are condemned in scripture.

We see in Galatians where such practices stem from.

Galatians 5: 19-23

“Now the works of the flesh are obvious: immorality, impurity, licentiousness,

idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, rivalry, jealousy, outbursts of fury, acts of selfishness, dissensions, factions,

occasion of envy, drinking bouts, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

In contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness,

gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.”

We see in Revelation what the outcome is for the unrepentant who participate in such acts.

Revelation 21: 5-8

“The one who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” Then he said, “Write these words down, for they are trustworthy and true.”

He said to me, “They are accomplished. I [am] the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give a gift from the spring of life-giving water.

The victor will inherit these gifts, and I shall be his God, and he will be my son.

But as for cowards, the unfaithful, the depraved, murderers, the unchaste, sorcerers, idol-worshipers, and deceivers of every sort, their lot is in the burning pool of fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”

Scripture is clear about this. Give up witchcraft and all pagan practices, repent, and give your heart entirely to God.

If I had a dollar for every time I saw this shit.

No one cares that you don’t like witches. No one cares that you just want to control people’s practices. Stay out of the tags or shut the fuck up. We don’t want to hear from you.

Or at the very fucking least, do your research. Instead of just regurgitating the stone cult nonsense your cishet white male pastor says.

Also, ex-gays aren’t a thing. :) Bye.

stone cult nonsense

okay another pet peeve I have about the common Christian language. What the fuck is up with the term “Believer?” Just say you’re a Christian! “Believer.” What is Yeshua to you? Justin Bieber? It’s such a general term for a specific religion, which screams Christian supremacy.

What, ya’ll don’t like the term Christian? Okay, I can understand that, but here’s the thing. Some of ya’ll go by the term “Believer” but you still pull the same stone cult nonsense the church does. You’ll try to separate yourselves from Christianity, but you won’t separate yourselves from the shitty church doctrines. That’s pretentious and performative af. It’s the same kind of pretentious energy as “I love Jesus, but I hate religion.” Pick a different term.

having religious beliefs that even slightly diverge from the traditional view is a privilege reserved for heterosexuals

shoutsofmybones

straight people can have all the weird beliefs they want and can still be accepted within their denomination. lgbt people have to agree with every minute detail or they're cast out

shoutsofmybones

actually i have more to say about this, because i have gotten the same bs again and again from cishet people about how my religious identity is not correct actually: i have met SO MANY cishet Catholics that fully don't believe a lot of doctrine. that show up for Mass on Christmas and Easter and that's it. that don't believe in the Trinity, that don't believe in guardian angels, that don't believe in the communion of saints, that pick and choose what they like about Catholicism and don't concern themselves with the rest. and they're still accepted as Catholic, by others and by myself. why? because they have the privilege of not being pigeonholed as opposing doctrine the instant someone learns about their sexuality/gender. lgbt people don't have the ability to keep secret what we don't believe in the Catechism. because it's baked into who we are. and as much of an ally as a cishet person is, they won't understand that.

My dearest pagans and witches, can we all, as a community, please get off our freaking high-horses and drop our holier-than-thou attitudes when it comes to pop-culture paganism? Please?

It's not like we have any ground to stand on ourselves:

One of the more popular and upcoming Goddesses, especially in Europe, came to be because Caroline Wise had a dream in 1995 where a red-headed woman with antlers came to her and said she was Elen of the Ways and that she was an ancient and forgotten Goddess. Caroline made a painting and wrote a book, and now she is revered worldwide.

Our other most popular horned deity we have no proof for, just carvings and sculptures that we think are the same, and one pillar with a name/title/??? on it.

We also conflate him with another horned figure, who isn't a God at all, but instead a ghost in one specific forest in England.

In the early 00's a Tolkien inspired coven Imladris was very popular, a ritual of theirs (where you call upon Galadriel and other Tolkien figures) was published in a mainstream witchcraft book with rituals for the Wheel of the year... and no one batted an eye.

There were books with rituals based on the classic fairytales... and they sold well enough for there to be a sequel.

Heck, the second most popular local Goddess here in the Netherlands: Baduhenna (yes, from whom I got my url). Do you know what "historical basis" we have for her? This: "Soon afterwards it was ascertained from deserters that nine hundred Romans had been cut to pieces in a wood called Baduhenna, after prolonging the fight to the next day, and that another body of four hundred, which had taken possession of the house of one Cruptorix, once a soldier in our pay, fearing betrayal, had perished by mutual slaughter." From the Annals by Tacitus. One sentence which says that there was a forest called Baduhenna. That's it.

And that's all without even touching on allllllll of those pagans who view the Gods not as Gods, but as (Jungian) archetypes.

We all have UPG (unverified personal gnosis, which might as well be called Deity Headcannon) about the deities and spirits and what not that we work with. We are all (subconsciously) influenced by the media we consume and the books we read and the posts here on Tumblr which say what makes good offerings etc. Most of our historical or mythological sources are second-, third-, even thousandhand.

We have no leg to stand on to judge others on who or what they worship. So stop it.

loveyourneighbor

Bruh, even the Yeshua I work with has no tangible proof of his existence. There’s no record in the Roman or Greek documents that we have that mention a 30-year-old Jewish man walking on water, healing the sick, and coming back to life. There were, however, a lot of Yeshuas in that time because it was a very common name. (I’d also like to briefly mention that the “Hell” that is commonly believed in by a ridiculously large number of Christians is based on nothing but bible fanfiction, but this post isn’t about that.)

None of us have a valid leg to stand on to judge others for practicing pop culture paths. None of us have a valid ground to stand on in order to judge which spirits are real and which aren’t. Statements such as, “Pop culture pagans are just scared of Real Deities™” are nothing more than baseless assumptions that are made because some of ya’ll can’t be bothered to get to know those on pop culture paths.

As said by the op above me, stop it.
